Application Drivers for Cloud Computing

Abstract: Industry players including Google, Amazon, Yahoo and Microsoft are rapidly deploying large scale data centers each with hundreds of thousands of processors to support the growing demand for cloud application. Currently these applications include big services such as search, eMail and other messaging services that support billions of users, but there are many more. (Microsoft alone supports over 100 services.) The most recent trend has been the emergence of rich application development environments to allow anybody with a credit card to design cloud applications and deploy them at large scale on one of the commercial cloud hosting providers. In this talk we will look at a few examples of cloud applications that can exploit very smart client platforms, fast networks, 99.99% reliability and extraordinary scalability.
